FourPlans: Single-Story Space Savers

These efficient one-story layouts minimize hallways and put square footage where it really matters: the kitchen, family room, and master suite.

Emphasis on the Kitchen

This home devotes space where buyers want it: the kitchen and family room (they open to one another), plus the comfortable master suite. A wide island adds extra space to prep food in the kitchen, with a nice view of the side patio and its trellis and easy access to the back porch. Every bedroom offers a walk-in closet, and the master suite has two. An enormous bonus space upstairs can become almost anything in the future – a home gym, perhaps? Clever Placement of Rooms

Here’s an exceptionally well-thought-out layout. For example, check out the pool bath: it’s close enough to serve the secondary bedrooms, but also has a door to the lanai for easy access from outside. Similarly, the entrance to the master suite screens the bedroom and spacious bathroom (where you’ll find a huge shower) from public view. The kitchen offers a handy snack bar for casual meals, as well as easy access to the open dining room. Don’t miss the walk-in closet on the way in from the garage (why not use it as a pantry for easy grocery storage?) or the versatile den/library. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Intuitive Layout

This terrific one-story Craftsman uses every square foot well. Take a look at the entrance from the garage: if you need to throw your boots in the laundry room, it’s right there, but you don’t have to walk through it to get to the open living spaces (a pantry on the way is located perfectly for easy grocery storage). Short hallways preserve privacy for the bedrooms, especially the comfortable master suite (don’t miss the soaking tub and double sinks in here). An island adds extra prep space in the kitchen. Terrific Value

Here’s a home that does a lot with 1,570 square feet, especially in the master suite. Here, buyers will love the large walk-in closet, spacious bedroom, and roomy bath that’s complete with a corner tub, big separate shower, two sinks, and a water closet. The kitchen also delivers more than expected with an island, snack bar, and a half wall that overlooks the living room so buyers can chat with friends and family while washing dishes. Two more bedrooms share a hall bath in the left wing. See more images, information, and the floor plan.
