When architect Page Goolrick began this kitchen, dining room, and mudroom addition in Wilton, Conn., she and her graphic designer client agreed on two main goals. They each thought the house’s new portion should contrast stylistically with the old, and they also envisioned a space that embraced the outdoors. “We both wanted a counterpoint to the existing New England Shaker vocabulary,” Goolrick says. “The house is very inwardly focused, and we wanted something that was very much like being outside in a wooded area.”
