ARCHITECT's Katharine Keane reports the AIA has announced the election of three new leaders, including 2019 first vice president/2020 president-elect L. Jane Frederick, FAIA, of AIA South Carolina; 2019-20 secretary Jason Winters, AIA, of AIA Maryland; and at-large director Jessica Sheridan, AIA, of AIA New York Chapter/AIA New York. Frederick beat out fellow candidate William "Bill" Carpenter, FAIA, founder of Lightroom. Sheridan garnered more votes than candidates Rob Walker IV, AIA, and James Wright, FAIA. The position of secretary was uncontested.
A graduate of Auburn University, Frederick is the founder of Beaufort S.C.–based Frederick + Frederick Architects. She served as an at-large director on AIA National’s Board of Directors, director of the South Atlantic Region, and president of AIA South Carolina.
“To create a future with better buildings, better communities, and a better world, we have to be flexible, nimble, and seize opportunities to turn dilemmas into advantages,” Frederick said in an AIA press release. “As architects, when we are at our best, we don’t talk about the future—we create it.”
