Homeowners care about the finishes in their homes, and if builders don't give buyers the right materials from the start, they are likely to change products later.
Several Chicago-area remodelers spoke with the Chicago Daily Herald to share which materials are popular in bathroom and kitchen renovations.
Jessie Northrop of Bath Planet of Chicagoland told the Herald that custom-made acrylic surfaces in bathroom renovations are increasingly popular among their clientele. The acrylic surfaces come in several different colors and patterns and allow homeowners to make "bolder" choices in their bathroom designs.
The other trend she has noticed is that more customers are pairing acrylic panels with white tubes and white shower bases, as well as bronze or nickel fixtures. Northrop said less than 1% of those renovating their baths today are opting for whirlpool tubs.
On the kitchen front, Northrop said the Kitchen Planet branch of the business is seeing nearly 80% of customers refacing dark cabinets with white or light color color or wood tone. Kitchen Planet also says many customers are choosing marble or granite-look laminate, while some favor using quartz or marble slabs. Regardless of material type, most homeowners are favoring lighter-colored countertop materials to complement the light-colored cabinets. To round out popular kitchen materials, most homeowners in the Chicagoland area are choosing single-bowl, stainless steel sinks paired with arched faucets.
