Benjamin Moore has revealed Aegean Teal 2136-40, a blue-green midtone with a touch of gray, as its 2021 Color of the Year. According to Benjamin Moore, the Color of the Year and the corresponding shades of the Color Trends 2021 palette are “rooted in the elegant, handspun textures of the home,” chosen to evoke a sense of comfort, craft, nourishment, and inspiration.
In this year’s Color of the Year announcement, Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore’s director of color marketing and development, and Hannah Yeo, color and design manager for Benjamin Moore, emphasized Aegean Teal’s strong aesthetic qualities. “Aegean Teal is an exceptionally balanced color,” Magno says. “It has a touch of gray to it that makes it have this softened, casual elegance, which really makes it very inviting. And we felt very strongly this year about having a midtone as our Color of the Year. ... We fell in love with it for its complexity, its depth, and even its versatility.”
While the color and its themes were chosen in January, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, its themes align with the importance and the value of home as a sanctuary, which has only been amplified by quarantine.
“Amid uncertainty, people yearn for stability. The colors we surround ourselves with can have a powerful impact on our emotions and well-being,” says Magno. “Aegean Teal 2136-40 and the corresponding Color Trends 2021 palette express a welcoming, lived-in quality that celebrates the connections and real moments that take place within the home.”
In addition to Aegean Teal, the full Color Trends 2021 palette includes:

“We’re drawn to certain colors because they make us feel good,” Yeo says. “They make us feel comfortable and relaxed. And I think a lot of the colors that we have in our palette could help to achieve that. It creates a warm ambiance that appeals to the senses. … it really adds texture to your daily routine, and I think it enhances everything and lets you celebrate those small moments.”
