Since the onset of the pandemic, pet ownership has soared in American households. Zillow’s 2021 Consumer Housing Trends Report found nearly three-fourths of home buyers reported having at least one pet at home (73%), up from 64% of buyers who reported having a pet in 2020. And with more people bringing home furry friends, homeowners are designing their homes with pets in mind.

Houston-based builder Thompson Custom Homes with designers Robert Dame Designs and Creative Tonic Design completed Wilding 3, a custom home for a large family and its canine members. In addition to the standard appliances, utility sink, and storage areas, the home’s oversized laundry room includes its own dog bath. Raised up from the floor, but below countertop height, the soft green-tiled area with black hardware sits on the central wall between two windows and allows the owners to wash their dogs with ease.

The pet amenities continue with a faucet on the front of the laundry room’s island for easy water bowl filling, while built-in dog kennels and dedicated nooks have been incorporated for more spoiling.
