In the rolling hills of Heber City, Utah, local custom builder PureHaven Homes and architect Habitations Residential Design Group partnered to design the 7,800-square-foot Hendrickson Residence in the luxury Red Ledges community.

The showcase home is filled with unexpected features, including a stream running underneath the dining room, a floating pantry, live-edge walnut countertops, and a rooftop garden. But, downstairs on the lower level of the home, another surprise awaits.

Off the theater lounge, a pivoting bookcase reveals an 8-foot-wide secret gaming room. To access the soundproof space, the cabinet contractor had to create a special hinge in the center of a bookcase so it would swivel open and close. Inside, there are two individual gaming stations, each with its own TV, chair, and console setup.

“I think, and it may sound corny, but the reason people love them is because it plays to their inner kid,” says Shane Harr, founder of PureHaven Homes. “When that game room door is closed, no one has a clue that the room is there and to watch people once we open that ... they just love it.”
