Within a small enclave of six single-family homes in Campbell, California, the Plan 1 residence at Haymarket Court radiates a farmhouse aesthetic with a modern touch. At roughly 2,500 square feet, the two-story plan features four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and a two-car attached garage.

Irvine, California–based architecture firm Robert Hidey Architects and local builder Robson Homes aimed to create an idyllic home at first glance. With a prominent gable roof anchored by a large brick front porch and surrounded by a traditional white picket fence and driveway with hand-laid pavers, the team developed a façade reminiscent of a classic farmhouse.

“It’s nostalgic,” notes one design award juror during the deliberations. “It’s refreshing to see a home that looks somewhat timeless,” continues another juror.

A formal “receiving” room greets guests upon entry from the front porch and flows right into the modern kitchen. Outfitted with crisp white detailing—including Shaker-style cabinetry, a subway tile backsplash, marble countertops, and pendant light fixtures—the room’s European oak hardwood flooring adds a natural wood tone and brings a sense of warmth to the all-white space.

In addition to the main living areas, a guest bedroom suite, a laundry room, and a powder bath complete the offerings on the first level. Upstairs, a quaint loft space separates the master suite from two additional bedrooms and a hall bath.

“This style and this house would sell in any market across the country,” concludes a judge. “It’s very well done.”
