Located on a densely wooded property in East Hampton, New York, The Up Studio’s 145-square-foot Inside Out Cabana offers family and guests ample space to relax and entertain. The modest structure houses a bathroom, storage, an outdoor bar, and seating areas. The Up Studio met the client’s request for the project by designing a space that incorporates additional outdoor living without altering the untouched landscape on the property.

The judges were impressed with the project’s innovative construction techniques: The structure was built from factory-produced panels that were delivered and installed on-site. Defined by four core walls and a singular overarching panel, the space utilizes the minimal amount of needed panels to fulfill the design.

Constrained by the allowable footprint for an accessory structure, the design is able to maximize functionality by splitting apart the private and public spaces. Only the private areas become enclosed, while the remainder of the structure provides cover from the elements.
