DeWalt, a Stanley Black & Decker brand, has become the Tool Trade Sponsor for the Home Builders Institute’s (HBI) BuildStrong Academies.

HBI’s BuildStrong Academies are tuition-free institutions that provide hands-on training and education for individuals interested in pursuing careers in construction. To date, there are BuildStrong Academies in Orlando, Florida; New Orleans; Houston; Denver; Phoenix; Sacramento, California; and Charlotte, North Carolina. DeWalt’s sponsorship will support the HBI’s mission to create 1 million jobs by 2035.

The partnership is part of DeWalt’s Grow the Trades initiative, a commitment of $30 million over five years to support organizations that are skilling, reskilling, and upskilling tradespeople. The company will supply its tools and equipment to HBI’s training centers to help students learn skills and gain the experience needed for successful trades careers.

“We are proud to partner with HBI’s BuildStrong Academy, an organization that shares our vision of empowering the next generation of skilled tradespeople,” says Frank Mannarino, president of the power tools group for Stanley Black & Decker. “The trades offer rewarding career opportunities and together with HBI, our goal is to provide training, education, and resources to cultivate the future of the industry.”

The BuildStrong Academies offer programs and courses covering trades and skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.

“DeWalt is a trusted and respected brand in the construction industry, and we are thrilled to have them as our Tool Trade Sponsor,” says Ed Brady, president and CEO of the HBI. “With their generous investment and donation, we will be able to enhance our training programs and facilities and equip our students with the tools they need to succeed in the trades. We are grateful for their commitment to Growing the Trades and supporting our mission of building strong careers, a ready workforce, and a thriving economy.”

HBI is a nonprofit provider of trade skills training and education for the building industry. The organization provides pre-apprenticeship training and certification programs in middle and high schools, community colleges, technical institutes, and training academies.
