After acquiring Mobius Construction in Greenville, South Carolina, Trehel—a privately held general contractor—has launched Trehel Tailored Homes to build high-end custom homes in the upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina markets.
“The launch of Trehel Tailored Homes is an exciting milestone that brings our company story full circle,” says Trehel CEO Will Huss. “As we continue to experience growth in our commercial business, expanding into the residential construction market will diversify our offerings while meeting the needs of customers who have asked about our home building capabilities for years.”
Mobius Construction’s founder and former owner Matt Ruth joins Trehel to serve as team leader of Trehel Tailored Homes. With over 25 years of experience, Ruth has been building homes in Greenville since 2009. Ruth will work alongside Huss and Trehel president and chief operating officer Keith Poole to deliver custom home building services.
Poole says, “It’s an ideal time for Trehel to enter the custom home building sector as our commercial construction business continues to operate smoothly and experience growth. Many of our commercial clients have expressed interest in high-end residential services."
"With our company's early roots in residential construction, the opportunity to work with local builder Matt Ruth presented a unique opportunity to expand our services to the residential market," Poole continues. "The decision to launch Trehel Tailored Homes was also influenced by the unique factors of upstate South Carolina, including its growth and demand for high-end custom homes.”
Trehel Tailored Homes will complement Trehel’s commercial business, which has provided construction management, general contracting, and design-build services in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia for over 40 years. In addition to working in various industries, the firm has built state-of-the-art club amenities for several communities, including The Cliffs, The Reserve at Lake Keowee, and Wade Hampton Golf Club.
Projects that were already in Mobius’ pipeline are now being managed by Trehel Tailored Homes, Poole notes. The home builder will aim to deliver single-family custom homes that are inspired by the unique design traits of surrounding neighborhoods.
Looking ahead, Ruth adds, “Regarding luxury residential construction specifically, we expect the market to remain strong in 2024 and largely unaffected by current interest rates and inflation. Within upstate South Carolina, we also expect continued growth in the luxury residential construction market. This will complement the region's overall growth and opportunity to support many types of home buyers, from families putting down long-term roots to retirees. Regardless of the type of buyer, there is great demand for building near the award-winning downtown of Greenville as well as natural amenities such as the Blue Ridge Mountains and the upstate lakes.”
Through a customer-centric approach, Trehel Tailored Homes sees each home as a sanctuary for its owners and a meeting place among family and friends. In addition to custom residential build projects, Trehel Tailored Homes will pursue high-end home renovations and expansions.
