Before the end of the year, 16 highly efficient townhome units will be constructed at the Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, a members-only community of luxury ski resort properties in Wilmington, Vt. Starting at $1.3 million each, the slopeside, quad-style townhomes are being built from Superior Walls Xi Plus precast concrete wall systems.
The Superior Walls concrete foundation can be fully installed in just four days -- significantly less time than pour-in-place cement installation requires. "The speed and efficiency with which the Superior Walls foundations are being installed will greatly help our construction timeline and goals,” says Robert Rubin, vice president of construction at the Hermitage Club.
The Superior Walls system includes 1-inch foam insulated concrete studs and 1-inch foam insulation on bond beams. The panels’ face shell is backed with 4.5 inches of expanded polystyrene rigid foam insulation and 1/2 inch of Dow Thermax polyisocyanurate rigid board insulation. In addition, the walls are heavily reinforced with rebar and polypropylene fibers, and each panel is made up of 5,000+ PSI concrete.
"These foundations are ideal for the Hermitage Club location because the concrete we use provides protection against freeze/thaw cycles,” explains John Weinhold, operations manager for Superior Walls. “At the same time, there's also protection from water vapor transmission while the urethane sealant used between the panels provides superior protection against sidewall water penetration."
Modular components are added to the townhomes once concrete foundations are in place, further increasing the speed and efficiency of the building process. Once completed at the end of November, the three-story, energy-efficient townhomes will include five bedrooms, four full baths, and one half-bath.
Residents will have private ski-on/ski-off access to Haystack slopes and as well as Hermitage Club’s four-season luxury amenities, which include a golf community, ice skating, snow tubing, trails, and more.
