Recent news reports regarding Lumber Liquidators' Chinese-manufactured laminate flooring and its formaldehyde content have brought to light concerns from consumers regarding laminate flooring. The North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA) wants to assure consumers that not all laminate flooring carries the dangers of the flooring highlighted in the TV report.

NALFA strongly recommends builders review the list of NALFA Certified laminate flooring products at nalfa.com. These products have passed 10 rigorous tests for safety and quality, including meeting or exceeding CARB Phase 2 emission standards. The NALFA Certification Seal serves as verification that a product will provide the consumer with a safe flooring option.

Regarding formaldehyde specifically, laminate flooring products bearing the NALFA Certification Seal must undergo laboratory testing that affirms compliance with applicable federal and state regulations pertaining to formaldehyde content.

Builders can feel confident with NALFA because it is the only ANSI-accredited trade organization exclusively dedicated to the North American laminate flooring industry and representative to the International Standards Organization (ISO).  NALFA Regular Member Manufacturers are industry leaders and make some of the most well known brands in laminate flooring.

The recent media coverage has reinforced the importance of standards and purchasing certified products. NALFA Certified laminate flooring is readily available through a multitude of sales outlets. More information on NALFA Certified products and NALFA Members can be found at nalfa.com.
