The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized 10 home builders and four home raters with the 2023 Indoor airPLUS Leader Awards.

The awards honor organizations that support and promote safer and healthier indoor environments through participation in the Indoor airPLUS program.

“Congratulations to all 14 of the 2023 Indoor airPLUS Leader Award winners,” said Joseph Goffman, principal deputy assistant administrator of EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. “Thanks to their hard work and dedication, every Indoor airPLUS home built and certified delivers a healthier living environment and fosters healthier communities from the inside out.”

Beazer Homes, No. 19 on the 2023 BUILDER 100 list, was recognized as the 2023 Indoor airPLUS Leader of the Year. Over the past year, Beazer Homes has expanded its Indoor airPLUS offering to every division and market in which it builds and has developed a companywide Indoor airPLUS training curriculum.

The home builder also offers educational videos on Indoor airPLUs, which empowers homeowners and builder peers with insights into creating healthier living environments. According to EPA, it is impressed by how Beazer Homes puts energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality at the forefront of its mission.

“As part of our industry-leading commitment to energy efficiency and indoor air quality, we provide whole-house fresh air systems in every home we build. We appreciate the EPA’s recognition of our efforts on behalf of new home buyers,” Allan Merrill, CEO of Beazer Homes, said in a release.

Home rater EnergyLogic of Berthoud, Colorado, was also named as a Leader of the Year, the company’s fourth overall recognition and third Leader of the Year award in the last three years. EPA highlighted the company’s efforts to grow its educational outreach with a technical approach, which introduces new builders to Indoor airPLUS and offers advice to meet program specifications.

Indoor airPLUS is a voluntary partnership and labeling program that helps builders improve the quality of indoor air and meet consumer preferences for homes with improved air quality, according to the EPA. The EPA says Indoor airPLUS-labeled homes can help reduce the likelihood of common and serious health problems, such as disease transmission, heart disease, cancer, asthma, allergies, respiratory issues, and headaches.
