As Arizona prepares to host Super Bowl LVII in 2023, 13 new hotel projects are already under way. The rush of new hotel developments in the West Valley is expected to add more than 1,300 rooms to the 5,615 rooms currently available, an increase of more than 20 percent.

"We're getting better" at telling the story of the West Valley, Goodyear City Manager Julie Arendall said. The venue for the big game will be the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale just west of Phoenix and will be the fourth time Arizona has hosted the Super Bowl. According to Cardinals president Michael Bidwill the NFL asked organizers to reserve three times more event space with different event venues. In 2015, the game contributed an estimated $720 million to the Arizona economy, but cost the city of Glendale $579,000.

Glendale leaders in May said they are hopeful the city will see more of the economic benefits this time around. They said visitors could expect to see more amenities and parking near the stadium than three years ago, including at least five more hotels.

Glendale, with a total of 1,595 rooms at 13 hotels, leads the West Valley in hotels thanks largely to Westgate Entertainment District and its surroundings. "The greater Glendale sports and entertainment district is the West Valley's downtown," said Brian Friedman, Glendale's director of economic development.
