The Florida HBA (FHBA) is doing something about the industrywide shortage of skilled workers. The trade group recently launched the National Future Builders of America program. The FHBA now has six local future builders chapters up and running and is looking to expand the program nationally. The idea is for local chapters to work with middle and high school students interested in construction. Local chapters take the kids on field trips to jobsites and manufacturers, serve as mentors, and sponsor summer construction education camps.
