According to the El Paso Times, Desert View Homes, ranked number 52 on the 100 Biggest Builders list recently bought Armadillo Homes, another San Antonio-based builder ranked at 88 on the list for an undisclosed price. View Homes is also active in the northern Colorado market. "We felt expansion was necessary to limit risk, as one market slows another will excel," said Randy O'Leary, View Homes founder, owner, and chief executive officer. "Our size helps with purchasing power, as we are able to make better buys with major suppliers, which then, we are able to pass those savings onto the customer."

O'Leary, an El Paso native, incorporated his company in 1991. It did remodeling and landscaping until he got enough money to build his first two homes in 1995 — the real start of his original company, Desert View Homes. In 2018, View Homes sold 1,078 homes, including 378 in El Paso, for $306 million; and Armadillo sold 543 homes, including 382 in San Antonio, for $141 million, reported Randy Leary, View Homes founder, owner and chief executive officer.

"Randy (O'Leary) is not set in his ways. He's always looking to improve his company. That's why he's been so successful," said Dean Inniss, president and chief operating officer of Rocky Mountain Mortgage, which gave Desert View its first home construction loan."He empowers his employees, and he's not afraid to go outside to get a bird's eye view of his business; and he's not afraid to take some risks," Inniss said.
