For ClimateMaster’s latest introduction, three is the magic number.

The Trilogy 45 Q-Mode variable-speed geothermal heat pump system was recently recognized with the Federal Laboratory Consortium’s 2014 Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer, which applauds the successful transformation of a new technology into commercialized products.

The unit features an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 45, a new industry record for geothermal systems, the company claims. ClimateMaster attributes the high level of energy efficiency to a “Trilogy” of precision components: a variable speed compressor, a variable speed fan, and a variable speed loop pump. It’s also a hot-water heater, providing year-round hot water for the whole house at over 500-percent (5.0 COP) efficiency, according to the firm.

Featuring iGate Connect technology, the system also offers convenient programming, monitoring, and control for homeowners and dealers over the internet from any WiFi-enabled device. It’s the first residential geothermal heat pump system to provide dealers with complete diagnostics and operating data via Wi-Fi, the company said.

“The Trilogy 45 Q-Mode is exceptional in delivering on occupant comfort, particularly in its ability to keep temperature and humidity in a very tight band,” said Raj Hiremath, director of marketing at ClimateMaster. “As it is constantly running at a very low speed, the unit is also much quieter than a typical two-stage unit, which can frequently shut on and off.”

Expected payback on the Trilogy 45 Q-Mode is comparable to typical geothermal heat pump installations, ranging from three to nine years.
