The Dallas Morning News reports builders and developers in the Arlington, Texas community of Viridian are looking past marketing to millennials and instead going after their older siblings. Prices tend to be higher and the homes skew smaller in the development. The market segment being targeted is referred to as the active adult which is defined as people ages 55 and up. Viridian is spread across 2000 acres and has attracted some builder heavyweights.
The 144-acre Viridian Elements neighborhood has houses built by David Weekley and Drees Custom Homes. Both builders just opened their models at Viridian with houses priced from around $330,000. The homes range from fewer than 2,000 square feet to more than 4,100 square feet.
"We've had so much interest in this community since we announced it last year," Robert Kembel, general manager of Viridian, said in a statement. "About a dozen homes were sold before the first model even opened."Lennar will also be building houses in the Viridian Elements project, which is planned to have about 700 homes.
The project includes a private amenity center, a fitness center and meeting facilities, a swimming pool and other outdoor amenities. "Residents of Viridian Elements also will have access to community pools, parks and other amenities in Viridian," Kembel said.
