Interest in green building and green living in general continues to grow among homeowners, including those interested in greening their existing homes. So the American Society of Interior Designers Foundation has partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council to develop a set of national green residential remodeling guidelines. Called REGREEN, the guidelines will comprise best practices using a whole-house approach to green remodeling.
"Awareness of earth-minded initiatives is increasing exponentially, and the guidelines fulfill a need within the design industry and among consumers," said Michael Alin, ASID executive director, in a statement about the program. "The society has seen a surge in interest regarding green design across its membership, and partnering with USGBC to create these guidelines is a natural fit."
The public comment period for the REGREEN program is now open, and a draft of the guidelines is available for review at www.regreenprogram.org. The comment period closes Dec. 10, 2007. Final guidelines will be released in March 2008 at the ASID Conference on Design in New Orleans (www.asid.org/interiors).
