Fit for a King

Merit: best kitchen in a single-family detached remodeled home—over 5,000 square feet.

1 MIN READ

In a design landscape increasingly dominated by clean lines and contemporary finishes, this kitchen eschews the norm but demonstrates just the right way to go ornate. Richly adorned with what builder Glen Lumia calls a “unique take on a traditional style,” the space is tricked out with custom mosaics, handcarved crown molding, rich cherry cabinets, and granite countertops with a raised zebra-wood island. A large window over the sink combined with the open flow of the kitchen into the great room keep the overall effect from becoming too heavy or dark.

And while flourishes abound, the space is also a workhorse with a full arsenal of tools. Complementing the usual top-of-the-line appliances are some uncommon extras, including a three-tiered Viking wine fridge with separate temperature controls for each level, and a twin set of Miele ovens offering steam and speed cooking.

Lavish, to be sure. But lavish well done.
