Mattamy Homes announced Tuesday it will have the exclusive opportunity to introduce residential development to University Research Park (URP) in Charlotte– one of the largest employment and retail centers in the region, currently zoned only for non-residential development.

Mattamy will be acquiring land within URP from Crescent Communities, and will be working with University City Partners on a plan to down-zone the tract to accommodate a lower-density plan that will integrate townhomes and ample open spaces into the URP. The proposed community will give residents a high-quality housing option within walking distance of the URP’s many employment opportunities. Mattamy is currently the largest builder of townhomes in the Charlotte region.

“Our objective with this townhome community will be to establish a new benchmark for partnership and community benefit,” says Mike McElroy, Mattamy’s Division President, Charlotte. “We are so excited to work with University City Partners, Crescent Communities and other partners to create something positive and unique, and to engage in a creative vision for the future of development at URP. All of us at Mattamy are looking forward to providing choice and addressing housing needs in the area.”
