Behind the Numbers:

Ryland reported solid improvement in its second quarter, posting a profit and solid increases in home sales and closings. It also managed to increase its average sales price by 2.4%. Its order cancellation rate, however, remains high at 19%, only a point less than last year’s. The company also did some restructuring of its debt, pushing due dates out and decreasing interest costs.

The Ryland Group’s second quarter ended June 30.
