Builders of energy-efficient homes have long been plagued by thermal bridging around windows and doors. John Brooks, president of BRINC Building Products, aims to solve this issue with ThermalBuck technology, which employs continuous exterior foam to easily insulate nail-flange windows. The product extends the mounting point for windows and doors to create a flush plane for cladding. Made of a high-density EPS with a waterproof coating, it also insulates the rough opening with an R-value of 4.4 per inch and provides an additional air and water barrier to simplify flashing. The product provides builders with a cost-effective solution to the challenges they face in meeting energy codes that require continuous insulation, the firm says.
