Out of Reach

The National Low Income Housing Coalition reports that the hourly wage needed to afford fair market rent rose 37 percent in four years: from 1999’s $11.08 an hour to $15.21 in 2003. The group’s report, “Out of Reach: 2003,” says the least affordable states are Massachusetts, California, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland. Go to www.nlihc.org/oor2003/ for the report.
