Flying UrbanCONE units would create healthy microclimates by purifying the air around an entire city or just one home. The jellyfish-like devices lift up and fly in the air
thanks to ultra-light construction and photovoltaic solar panel wings. The purification is made by exchangeable filters that
lie underneath the wings of the cones. The radio-controlled smart device could be clustered in population centers with
greater need for filtration.

Since 2003, appliance manufacturer Electrolux has challenged design students globally to create concepts that are relevant to the present while raising questions about what design will be like in the future through the Electrolux Design Lab.

PureTowel
is a smart towel hanger that could instantly clean towels after usage, creating
a cleaner and healthier bathroom. Using an ultraviolet ray and a high speed
dryer fan, it is designed to purify and dry the towel in only a matter of seconds. By
eliminating 99.9% of bacteria and reducing humidity it would help the
user to stay healthy and clean.

This year, inspired by the theme of “Creating Healthy Homes,” the Electrolux Design Lab encouraged students to create inspiring ideas for healthy lifestyles that are both sustainable and enjoyable. Their innovations range from a PV-powered air purification device that flies in the air on wings, smart kitchenware that recreates the taste and smell of food, and a towel rack that instantly cleans and sanitizes bathroom towels.

Six finalists were chosen from more than 1,700 submissions across the globe whose designs offer solutions to creating healthy homes and fit within the categories of: Culinary Enjoyment, Fabric Care, and Air Purification. The winner will be chosen at the final event held in Paris in November. Click here to see all six finalists' designs and watch videos of their creations.
