As smart home features increase, an article by The Wall Street Journal's Drew Fitzgerald shows just how exposed we are.

Attackers are hijacking DVRs, satellite antennas and networking devices to conduct mass tests of stolen login credentials, according to research from Akamai Technologies Inc., the latest sign that common household gadgets are being remotely marshaled for malicious activity.

Akamai said hackers could have accessed nearly two million “smart” devices in homes and businesses.

“Once malicious users access the web administration console of these device they can then compromise the device’s data and in some cases, take over the machine,” Akamai researchers wrote in their report.
