For those who will be working outside in the winter, Mendez recommends Thermacell's new ProFLEX Heavy Duty heated insoles with Bluetooth technology: Users control how warm they want their insoles to be via an app on their smartphone that connects to the insoles using Bluetooth. Each insole has a removable, rechargeable battery. According to the company, each battery fully recharges in two hours or less and will last up to 8.5 hours on one charge. For someone with a lot of gadgets, SCOTTeVEST introduced its Off the Grid (OTG) jacket for both women and men. The jacket features 29 pockets to keep everything from keys to credit cards to smartphones safe and secure. The OTG also includes a pocket large enough to hold a laptop computer without making the jacket seem bulky, according to the company. It has a padded pocket to keep a tablet computer safe and two interior Clear Touch pockets that let users access their phones without removing the device from the jacket. $215.

For the kids, Walter Foster Jr. has published How to Build a House, the latest in its Technical Tales series of children’s books.
