Zoned for Vegetables

A porch off the kitchen overlooks the vegetable garden, designed by Arentz Landscape Architects. It occupies the void created by the new house and two stone buildings: a potting shed/garden library and a tool shed. Raised beds are made of durable locust wood, and the gravel field provides a clean surface and good drainage.

At the Longmeadow residence, a custom greenhouse accompanies the vegetable garden.

Awning windows and skylights regulate the greenhouse's interior temperature.

In the Longmeadow residence's berry garden, netting supported on cedar fencing and columns keeps birds at bay.

Stephen Stimson Associates designed raised beds in bluestone curbing to echo the property's footpaths.

Rustic and refined materials merge in the Longmeadow kitchen garden, where a vine trellis of rough-hewn beams is strung with stainless steel cables between granite columns.
