Vinyl Siding Styles and Options

Lap Siding  Charter Oak Energy Elite vinyl siding includes Fullback, Alside’s contoured foam backing. Available in both clapboard and Dutch lap profiles, the system offers improved energy efficiency and five times the impact-resistance of non-insulated vinyl, says the firm. Energy Elite is made with Preventol, an environmentally safe additive that discourages insects from nesting behind the siding. A rolled-edge nail hem ensures wind resistance.

Scalloped Shingles CertainTeed offers a variety of decorative accents and trim pieces. Its Cedar Impressions 6 1/4 half-round shingles are designed to accent the company’s wide range of vinyl siding and polymer shake options. The 0.1-inch-thick shingles feature a molded perimeter lock to create a seamless appearance, and the TrueTexture wood finish is molded from real cedar shingles. More than 30 color options are available.

Cedar Shake The Weathered collection features random grooves and deep textures cast from molds made of real cedar. The vinyl shakes present a darker shade in the grain and a lighter on the higher points, creating a deeper contrast between light and shadow to give the authentic appearance of hand-split cedar. The weathered color palette (shown) consists of 15 colors. The Foundry is a division of  The Tapco Group.

Board-and-Batten This rustic variation of vinyl panels is fit for historically themed French Country and cottage-style homes. It features alternating wide and narrow panels with a hand-milled cedar grain look. Royal Building Products says the Neopor insulation in its Haven line of insulated siding reduces noise up to 45 percent and offers greater impact resistance of 64 percent. The panels are rated for a 200 mph wind load.
