The campus of Florida Southern College boasts the world’s largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, including the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel.
Wright designed the Esplanade as covered walkways to protect students and faculty from intense sun and driving rain.
In 1938, Wright designed a Usonian house as faculty housing for Florida Southern College, but the plans languished unrealized, until now.
Block by block, Wright’s 1938 design is being reconstructed based on his floor plans, elevations, and renderings. The concrete mix was reformulated to look just like the original; yet it’s lighter on sand, impervious to water, and better able to withstand the elements.
