The North Macadam Waterfront project is redeveloping the industrial-heavy south shore of Portland’s Willamette River into a mixed-use community providing housing and educational space for a local university. Busby Perkins Will was commissioned to develop the master plan for the 20-block area, which was designed to pilot LEED-ND standards.
The North Macadam project, which will lead to the development of almost 2,500 LEED-Silver residential units, is designed to maximize views from and through the residential towers. Stepped building heights facing the river provide residents with a strong connection to the waterfront.
Perkins Will developed the community master plan for the 15-acre mixed-use Dockside Green in Victoria, B.C., a LEED-ND pilot project on a former brownfield site on Victoria Harbor. It features pedestrian and bike trails, a mini-transit system, and a boat launch and dock facilities.
The first phase of residences at Dockside Green, LEED-Platinum Synergy boasts double-glazed, low-E windows, ultra-efficient insulation, and external shading on most south- and west-facing windows to minimize heat gain in the summer but allow for daylight at other times of the year.
