TimberTech DrySpace secures between the deck joists to route water away from the space beneath. The system forms a ceiling made from off-white solid extruded vinyl, which the firm says lightens the area below. Designed for new or existing second-story decks with 12-inch or 16-inch on-center joist spacing, TimberTech also offers an optional gutter and downspout to ensure water is drained away from the usable space beneath.
Hardwood Designs Co. The mesquite flooring in
this Texas home and Watermark Awards merit winner captures a pure, site-specific essence. Mesquite is also extremely stable and is about equal on the Janka hardness scale to exotic woods such as mahogany. For this custom installation the 6-inch planks feature a beveled edge to distinguish each board. Pricing starts at $12 to $14 per square foot.

A GeoSpring heater can operate more efficiently than standard water heaters by using heat-pump technology to absorb the heat from ambient air and transfer it to water, while providing the same amount of water as a standard electric 50-gallon water heater, says Dave Kresta, senior product manager of the emerging technology group at NEEA.

Pure Genius flooring from Canada-based Lauzon is activated by natural or artificial light and the movement of air to continuously break down airborne toxins and create a constant supply of fresh indoor air. Studies show that the air in rooms installed with Pure Genius is up to 85 percent cleaner than spaces without the flooring, the firm says.
The Granith line from TheSize offers natural granites for countertop, flooring, and wall cladding applications. All 11 colors are available in a polished finish—brown amber also comes in a satin finish—and are designed for an exotic yet timeless appearance. The granite is selected from controlled quarries in Angola, Brazil, and Zimbabwe, and is produced with tight sustainability and resource protection controls, says the firm. www.thesize.es
The experimental bathroom, designed by Caltech engineers and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, runs on solar power to flush, disinfect, and recycle human waste into water for the toilet, urinal, sink, and “squat pan” that are part of the side-by-side restroom and treatment unit.
Heat & Glo’s ultra-modern Mezzo series of gas fireplaces feature LED underlighting beneath crushed glass, which comes in six different colors. Lea Ceramiche Designed by Diego Grandi, Type-32 is an exercise in creating a new graphic language for flooring design. It overlays detailed wood patterns in cool and warm tones with stylized oblique lines. When laid together, the porcelain tiles create a contemporary interpretation of traditional herringbone floors. The collection uses the firm’s Slimtech long slat sizing, 20 centimeters by 200 centimeters, with a 5mm thickness.
The Floor Plan App from Stanley digitally measures and creates floor plans. Using a smartphone or tablet’s camera, users view a room or space through the app’s augmented reality function and can designate placement of room corners and doors. The app’s intuitive software estimates and automatically populates each room with dimensions and square footage calculations.

The Heatworks Model 1, the first all digital water heater, is compact enough to be installed at the point of use. Instead of using metal heating elements, an array of graphite electrodes and electronic controls heat water through an electric current. Temperature is auto-adjusted by the unit 60 times a second.
Steel boxes measuring 18 inches high by 35 inches wide with a depth of 24 inches act as the house’s structure, exterior finish, and interior storage.
