Assembling a Modular House

From Start to Finish. The following images show elements of the construction process of a modular house manufactured by HandCrafted Homes of Henderson, N.C. Houses built on foundations that are either crawl spaces or basements offer the best price advantages for builders using modules that are assembled in a factory and hoisted onto the job site, typically 70% to 80% completed. “What we're really selling are ‘soft’ costs,” such as energy efficiency, quality, and speed of completion, says HandCrafted's GM Bill Murray. The finishing touches to the home are made at the jobsite, and a certificate of ownership is handed to the home buyer within 90 days of when the order for the house is placed.
