From MarketWatch, a look at the prospects for the public home builders as second-quarter earnings are released during the next two weeks.

Earnings season for U.S. home builders kicks off in earnest this week, with D.R. Horton DHI, +0.73% and PulteGroup PHM, +0.47% reporting their second-quarter results on Thursday.

The builders that have reported already, KB Home KBH, +1.35% and Lennar LEN, +0.64% , have beat expectations. But analysts are divided on what the rest of earnings season will bring.

“Up until last week the stocks hadn’t moved at all, because the general sense was it’s okay. It’s not booming, it’s not declining,” MKM Partners’ senior analyst Megan McGrath told MarketWatch. “All the management teams are stealing from the same script and they talk about a slow steady rate of growth. I expect you’ll hear the same theme in this quarter’s earning calls.”
