The American Institute for Economic Research recently released the best cities for college students, and despite it's high rent prices San Francisco topped the list.
San Francisco is not the most affordable city to live in; however, it attracts college students because of its bars, accessibility, and diversity. Most college listings are based on academics and financial aid, but AIER helps students get the value of the community around them.
Among midsize metro areas with populations between 1 million and 2.5 million, San Jose, California came out on top. For small metros—250,000 to 1 million residents—Boulder, Coloradowas the winner, and Ames, Iowa was No. 1 for college towns with fewer than 250,000 people.
