The metrics that Bernardo and his team look at include median annual income, homeownership rates, voter turnout, labor-force participation rates, unemployment rates, standardized test scores, and poverty rates.  

The top 10 highest ranked states that have gained most racial progress are: Georgia, New Mexico, Mississippi, Texas, Maryland, New Jersey, Arizona, California, North Carolina, and Alabama.
