Nerdwallet's staffers Kamran Rosen and Anna Helhoski dive into living affordability in Northern California, which has been known for its pricey living, but they do find some good places with reasonable home prices and high-quality public schools in the suburbs of Sacramento, Fresno, and San Francisco

The authors statistically compare factors including home prices, education, income growth, and crime risk in 202 places--cities, towns, and census-designated places with more than 10,000 residents--in Northern California. Southernmost counties of some cities, such as Orange and Los Angeles, are excluded from this study. 

The top 10 places in Northern California are: El Dorado Hills, Folsom, San Ramon, Dublin, Kingsburg, Roseville, Rocklin, Elk Grove, Clovis, and Clayton.
