Fortune staffer Anne Fisher channels digital job site CareerBuilder and its Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. to rank the 10 occupational fields where demand is greatest, with median hourly pay for each.
The CareerBuilder site has put together a list of jobs that require a college degree as well as jobs that don't. The research compares job postings with the number of hires in each of the past 12 months and pinpoints the biggest, and most persistent, gaps. Fisher writes:
No. 1 on the list: Nursing, with almost 200,000 unfilled openings. Software and app developers came in a distant second. Around 84,000 of those open posts go unfilled in any given month.
