Many Americans have never used online dating, but clearly, those who have never jumped the broom are far more likely to hook up via the miracle of digital algorithms.
Pew Research Center research analyst Monica Anderson writes that 30% of never-been-married adults have used online dating or a mobile dating app. Although never-been-married Millennial adults are big users of online dating, non-millennials--adults 35 and older--are equally into getting together via the internet. Fact is, an increasing number of Americans have never been married, with Americans 25 and older who have never been married rose to 20% in 2012.
Looking beyond the never-married population, 19% of those who are currently divorced, separated or widowed report ever using online dating.
Although Americans who are in a committed relationship were not asked how they met their partner in this current survey, a 2013 Pew Research Center survey found that only 5% of Americans who were currently married or in a committed relationship said they met their romantic partner online.
