Census data on solo households

New Strategist Press editorial director Cheryl Russell plumbs the data mine of the Census' Current Population Survey to look at single-person households by age-range.

Russell matches each of the Census age-groupings to a generational cohort, noting that Millennials are under age 39; Gen Xers are 39 to 50; Boomers are 51 to 69. Here's the breakdown:

Single-person households as a percent of total households by generation
Millennials: 20%
Generation X: 19%
Baby Boomers: 30%
Older Americans: 49%

Interesting data here that half of Americans older than age 69 head solo households.
