Rather than deal with the impersonal and hospital-like environments created by nursing homes, seniors are beginning to turn to smaller, alternative residences such as Green House homes. Constance Gutske of The New York Times takes a look at Green House homes, which only houses only seniors and gives them each a personal bedroom and bathroom.
Homes such as those built by Green House offer seniors a warm and nurturing environment. In addition to the environment, these homes are also cheaper and newer than nursing homes:
“Green homes were developed from a blank sheet of paper,” said Scott Brown, director of outreach at the Green House Project. The results, he said, have been encouraging. Studies show that residents have higher-quality lives and significantly fewer hospital readmissions."
