San Antonio has seen a recent spike in home sales and home prices.

Home sales in San Antonio, Tex. rose by 13% year-over-year in August of 2016 – and the mix of increased demand with low supply has driven house prices higher, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors and its August 2016 data on the local residential market.

Nearly 2,430 homes were sold in the San Antonio area last month, at an average price of $246,500, and a year-over-year increase of 4%. The median price has risen to $211,800, a 7% year-over-year increase.

While the average price and number of homes sold in higher brackets continues to set new precedents for San Antonio's for-sale residential market, the city is still an affordable alternative compared to other Texas metros. In Bexar County, SABOR reported that the median price of a home sold last month was $194,000. In Harris and Dallas County however, that median was $206,000 and $210,000, respectively.
