Rupert Murdoch, the executive chairman of News Corporation, recently sold his mansion in the West Village of Manhattan for $27.5 million, Michelle Higgins of The New York Times reports.
Murdoch purchased the property in March 2015 for $25 million but never moved in. The 25-foot-wide mansion has four bedrooms, four baths, three partial baths, an elevator and multiple outdoor spaces, including a rooftop terrace with views of the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center.
Less than five months after purchasing the home, Murdoch put it on the market before taking it down temporarily. He then put it back on the market in April. A bidding war ensued and the townhouse quickly went into contract, according to Dolly Lenz, of Dolly Lenz Real Estate who handled the sale. With multiple buyers competing for the property, she said, “it became a nightmare in terms of keeping everybody calm.”
