Albuquerque Business First's Stephanie Guzman reports on Putle's acquisition of 161 lots in the master-planed Cabezon in south Rio Rancho, a 900-acre development that will eventually expand to 2,700 homes.

The builder plans to target families, as well as the 55-plus demographic, which to date has made up about 65% of the Rio Rancho home-buying public, according to Jay Gillian, president of PulteGroup's New Mexico division.

The land acquisition comes in the wake of the big builder finishing up another local master-planned community in Rio Rancho, called Loma Colarado.

Pulte has fewer than two dozen homes and home lots left in its Pinnacle, Apex and Meridian communities at Loma Colorado.

PulteGroup is active in other communities in the Albuquerque area, most of which are on the Westside except for its Mesa Del Sol in south Albuquerque.
