Users of Indeed's premium product, Indeed Prime, were polled and the results showed that 88% of tech workers (defined as developers, technical specialists or analysts) were planning to leave their job. San Francisco Business Times reporter Annie Gaus analyzes the results of this survey, which shows that the number of tech workers looking at jobs outside of Silicon Valley is increasing.

Living expenses and other reasons are leading tech workers to look at these other markets:

High cost of living and constrained housing supply in the Bay Area may heighten the appeal of cities like Seattle, Portland, Austin or Madison, Wisc., all of which rank in the top 10 best-paying cities for software engineers.

Weighed against cost of living, Seattle is the top-paying market in that job category, according to data from Glassdoor. Portland ranks ninth.
