Home builders are starting to rethink their long-term strategies with focus now steered toward millennial preferences says Columbus Business First staff reporter Evan Weese. Columbus-based M/I Homes Inc., which has long built sprawling suburban neighborhoods of single-family homes, notes that millennials are the driving force behind future building strategies.
“Our greatest opportunity is for these millennials. They are later in the game in terms of getting married and having kids. ... But they’re coming,” said Tim Hall, M/I's vice president of land, in a recent forum on housing trends at the Columbus Metropolitan Club. “It creates an interesting dynamic for us. When they do pick up and leave (downtown), should they desire to do so, it creates a lot of interesting thoughts in our heads in terms of, how do we best serve that customer? They’re frankly just becoming buyers, so we’ve got a lot to learn.”
