It turns out many households don't know where to find smart-home products, and many aren't planning to buy them anytime soon. A new study from Parks Associates found fewer than a third of households know where to go to buy smart-home products.
Of the roughly 40% of households who even know of smart home products found out about them through the TV or Internet. Even so, only 24% of households plan to buy smart lights this year, and only 11% plan to buy a smart thermostat.
While it looks like the smart home product industry may need to spend some valuable marketing dollars to bring homeowners up to speed, this lack of awareness gives new home builders an in. Adding smart home technology to new homes is the perfect way of showing people a new lifestyle with connected technology that they've never imagined before - and that they can't get on their own (hint: because most don't know where to buy it).
