Former oil executive Archie W. Dunham will continue his foray into the home building business, reports the Houston Business Journal. He submitted plans last week for a 2,500-home master-planned community in northwest Houston that will break ground next summer.

The development from the former chairman of ConocoPhillips and chairman emeritus of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy will compete with the Bridgeland community, an 11,400-acre project being developed by The Howard Hughes Corp.

Dunham Pointe is the second residential community that the Dunham family has developed in the northwest Houston corridor. Three years ago, the family started developing Stone Creek Ranch, a 1,100-home community on 525 acres off U.S. Highway 290 and Becker Road. The family currently has about 400 homes on the ground, Dunham said.
