Google's Nest has new capabilities.

The (London) Telegraph staffer Sophie Curtis reports on Google-owned Nest Labs' launch of an updated version that allows users to control your water by smartphone, as well as central heating.

Curtis draws attention in her analysis to headwinds for smart home technology pioneers, as some of the early adopters have been disappointed and going public with the reports of poor performance. She writes:

A report published by Argus Insights last month claims that demand for connected home products is declining, due in part to distrust from consumers about the reliability of connected devices--often associated with poor network connection.

While smart light bulbs and security hubs lead in terms of consumer satisfaction, security cameras produce the most disappointment. However, consumer perceptions of the Nest Cam have increased almost 20 per cent since launch, indicating that some of the early issues have been addressed.
